What is the Omegavese?

Omegaverse, - a dominance hierarchy exists in humans, which are divided into dominant "alphas", neutral "betas", and submissive "omegas". This hierarchy determines how people interact with one another in romantic, erotic and sexual contexts.

I keep wondering if the inhabits of this universe aren’t shifters who somehow lost the ability to shift. Werewolf literature and lore has existed for centuries wherein humans transform (by magic or communicable disease) into wolves and build their society around a pack-like structure. In our modern world, we are familiar with the nuclear family, mom, dad, and 2.5 kids. For a plethora of reasons, multigenerational households or communal living has fallen out of favor in our world. But neither of those are the basis of this society.

Here, in the Omegaverse, society is organized around packs with alphas in leadership roles, and omegas as caregivers. Betas make up the majority of the population.

Alpha, Beta and Omega, and much like wolves were once believed to act, conform to natural instincts such as pack behaviour, nesting, heat and ruts.

Alphas are usually instinctively protective, dominant and can be controlling or violent. In a pack structure, alphas are usually the pack lead. They are naturally a little stronger, faster and more graceful than others. Alphas are usually male.

Betas are considered the most “normal”, and don’t tend to exhibit these instinctual drives.

Omegas are usually submissive, docile, and to be protected and cared for. They go into heat on a relatively regular basis. They are usually not expected to hold down a job or pursue a career, instead, acting as prized little pillow princesses. At least, that’s the idea. Omegas are usually female.
